This weekend saw the track and field action move out to Mosgiel as the South Island Masters Track and Field Championships were held there. Hill city had four members competing at these champs and they all did very well.

In the 1500m Myrtle Rough came first in the women's 65 and Alex McEwan won the men's 35 1500m and the 800ms. Liz Wilson won the women's 45 to 49 100m 200m and the 400m and was also a member of the winning octagon masters team. She also broke the women's 45 200m South Island record. Wayne Van Igor came 1st in the men's 40 long jump and second in the men's 40 100m and 200m.

Over the last 6 weeks the club has been holding a fun run and walk series on Thursday nights (which have been very successful) and then followed up by a barbeque afterwards.

Hill City Report - 23 November 2008

There were some outstanding performances by our club members at Saturdays track and field meeting at the Calidonian. The weather was perfect for running, in the women's Otago Champs 3000m Rebekah Greene broke the Otago w 15-16 Otago record, Mrytle Rough broke the Otago record in her age group also.

Paula Whiting had a great day with running in the 3000m and the 1500m and doing a personal best in both. Lauren Wilson carried on her great form in the 200m by breaking the w15-16 Otago record.

To top off the day the boys under 12 4x100m relay team Zack Watts, Chris McNoe, Sam Watson and George Woodhouse of broke the boys under 13 and 12 record. I think the promise of an ice block and coke each for all the boys by Bryce might have spurred them on.

There have been great turn outs for the fun run series too on Thursday nights and last Thursday was just the same. This Thursday the 27th November is the last fun run in this series so there will be a bbq after the run.

Last weekend the club participated in the Port Road race. The club's best results were once again in the junior grades, with Hill City taking every junior team title on offer. Alex Gorrie had a superb run, running fastest time in the Junior Men's grade with 15.52 minutes for the 5km course. In the senior women's event, Helen Chignell was placed third over the line and led the team to second overall. Oliver O'Sullivan and Richard Murphy placed fourth and fifth fastest times respectively which took the Hill City Men's team to third place overall.

In a pleasing result for the club, Hill City won the Nickells Challenge Cup, a trophy awarded for the male aggregate points over the Barnes and Port races.

The big highlight for Hill City over the weekend however was Shireen Crumpton continuing her stellar run of form as she swept to victory by over a minute at the National Road champs in Hamilton on Saturday in the Senior Women's race, completing the 10km course in a fast 34.15 minutes.
