It was another great effort by the club as it competed at the Ponydale Leith cross relays on Saturday.
The day started with a great win to the masters men no.1 team who had a close race with the Leith no.1 team. The team of Mike Wakelin, Kevin Duggin, Kerrin Williams and Richard Murphy also smashed the course record that was held by Hill City set last year.
In the same race the masters men no.2 team were just piped at the post for third.
The boys under 16 won their race.
In race 2 it was a real cliff hanger with the women's no.1 team and the University no.1 (and the Hill City girls) with the lead changing but as in the Lovelocks the University team was just too strong. The girls under 16 team came second.
In race 3 our boys and girl under 12 teams won and so did the under 12 mixed team.
In the final race of the day the men's no.1 team which was affected by a last minute change due to injury came 3rd.

Most of the club was involved in the Lovelock Relays on Saturday and the weather was cold and windy for most of the day.
The first race saw a great battle develop between the Hill City Masters men 1 team and the Leith masters men 1 with the lead changing quite a few times before the Leith team managed to struggle free on the runner and win the grade by 8 seconds. The High school boy's team won their race to take out the High school boy's title (that was in with the masters men).
The next big race saw a big battle unfold in the senior women's race between our women's no. 1 team and the University no. 1 team. The first leg saw a thrilling fast battle between Rebekah Greene and Hanna Newbolt from University. Hanna taking a slight lead into the second change. The lead changed many times over the next few changes with varsity finally pulling away to take the title on the last lap.
The senior men's no. 1 team came third after competing for much of the first lap then holding third for the rest of the race as the Caversham team blitzed the rest of the field to win from Ariki and us.
Overall it was a good day as our under 12 children took out the title as well.
Anna Frost (who ran in the no. 2 Women's team at the Lovelocks) heads back to the UK after a few weeks here. We wish her well on her trip back. Also good luck to Matt Bixley and Vel Musket as they head to France for the world 24 hour world champs.
This week there is club run and walk from the clubrooms. Don't forget to put your entry into the Ponydales in this week too.

It's been a great week for the club with 16 year old Rebekah Greene coming second at the World Schools Cross Country Champs in Liptovisky Mikulas, Slovakia on Wednesday. Also Anna Frost came second at the New Zealand Mountain champs.
The club was in good spirits at the club run and walk from the clubrooms and despite it being a mild day with wind and cloud the rain stayed away and a few members turned up to enjoy a run with each other.
The fast pack was led by Andrew Hall who took fellow masters Kerrin, Mike, Alex and new member Andrew over Signal Hill from Logan Park then up over the farm and back down through North Road to the club.
The medium pack went up High street and around the town belt with Stephen Bloomfield.
The medium slow pack went down Portsmouth drive and then zigged back to the clubrooms down the one way under the leadership of Lynn Hall.
This weekend is the Lovelock relays so if you are in a team please remember to bring $10 with you to give to your captain and there also a run and walk from the clubrooms for those who do not want race this Saturday at 1:45pm this Saturday.

Also well done to Elaine Abram who came third in the Open women in the King of the Mountain and Merrilee Williams came 5th. Sally Nicoll came 2nd in Masters Womens 50 + with ex-member Katherine Gunn 3rd and Barbara Murray 4th.
It turned out to be a very warm afternoon to hold the club Lovelock relay trials on Logan Park outside the clubrooms. The first home in the men's race was Alex Gorrie followed home by training mate William Scorgie. The winner of the other race was Phil Bremmer.
Merrilee Williams took a pack of people who didn't want to do the trials for an hour somewhere around town, while the Harrier Manager Alex McEwan took everyone else for a mass run for about half an hour around the Gardens and Northern Cemetery and back to the club for a very yummy afternoon tea.
Good luck to Rebekah Greene who hopefully had no probs with her flight to the secondary World Cross Country champs in Slovakia which are on April 21st.

The weather for our new member's day was just stunning and it brought about 70 people, many of them new, to the club run and walk from the clubrooms. Anna Frost came along for a run and visit as she is here on holiday until May.
Tom Hunt let Shireen Crumpton lead the fast pack for the first half of the run which was nice and easy on the grass, a scenic tour past her place, through Ross creek to McGowns, Tom then let Matt Bixley lead the pack for the second part of the run where some of Alex's pack jumped on board for the run back.
The medium pack was big pack lead by Alex McEwan through the Gardens and Woodhaugh Gardens where they almost ran into a wedding, up Ross Creek to McGouns. Some of the pack turned back and the others then headed up McGouns the went back to the club around the Ross Creeks reservoir where some of the younger members took a dip in the water before returning to the club.
The slow pack went out under the fine leadership of David down to Ravensbourne then up and over Signal Hill, then down the mountain bike tracks. There were a lot of new smiling faces enjoying the run.
The children went up the Logan park stairs to the Gardens and then zig-zagged the upper Gardens tracks and back to the clubrooms.
It was really good to see so many new faces at the club. This Saturday is the Lovelock relay trials.

Congratulations to Rachel Kingsford who came 72nd at the world cross country champs in Poland. She was the only women representing New Zealand that was an awesome effort by her and hopefully the first of many more to come.
Over the week before Easter there has been a group of club members have been takin part in some research about running stride with a well respected sports scientist from Russia now living in the USA Nicholas Romanov PhDs and Dr Graham Fletcher.
It has been a lot of fun and has at times been very testing but over all has been very rewarding for all who took part.
There was also a very good turn out to the club for a Easter run, a lot of members were away over Easter but there was a lot that stayed as well and a good number turned up for a run on Saturday.
There was Andrew Hall and Kerrin Williams who did a flat run for about an hour. The biggest pack was the slow pack lead by David (who a few new members in it). The smallest pack was the walking pack who was both Bruce's who went up into the gardens and the Northern Cemetery.
The children's pack was lead by Harrier manager Alex McEwan through the Gardens.
This Saturday is a club run and run from the clubrooms. It is 'New members day' so all newbie's are encouraged to come along and have a go.
